How Can I Help?

• Be up-beat and positive with your child before their visit. Telling your child that “Dr. Beck is going to give you a shot” or that “Dr. Camm is going to pull your teeth” – even when done in a joking way, can cause stress and anxiety for a child. Let US explain to the child what we are doing using terms that we know from long experience are less likely to create a negative reaction. If they ask ahead of time, “Will I get a shot?” tell them you do not know – that is up to Dr. Camm or Dr. Beck – but you will be happy to ask when you both get here.

• After your child has received treatment and they return to the waiting room, please do not ask “Are you okay?” or “Does it hurt?” They were fine and it didn’t until you brought it up. Instead, concentrate on what toy they are going to choose from the toy tower and whether or not they would like to stop off for a milkshake after they leave the office. If you are relaxed and matter of fact about the whole thing, there is a much better chance your child will be also.

• Please arrive on time for your appointments. IF you are going to be late, call and see whether we will still be able to see you. It is possible that if you arrive more than 15 minutes after your appointment time, we may have to reschedule.

• Please call us at least 24 business hours in advance if you must cancel. That way we can try and give your time to someone else. We do reserve the right, however, to charge you a missed appointment fee if you do cancel on less then 24 business hours or fail to arrive for your appointment.

• Please advise us of changes of address, phone numbers, marital status, custody changes or insurance coverage. Your insurance company DOES NOT call and notify us of changes to your plan – they only notify you.
